Obama Advisor tries to spin the appeal of the DADT ruling October 21, 2010

Here we can watch one Valerie Jarret try to spin the appeal of the DADT ruling as being one that should be decided by congress.

Here’s the source of my cognitive dissonance. I know that President Obama was a Constitutional law professor. So it’s not like he doesn’t understand the structure of government or about the checks and balances of the tri-lateral form of government.

But at the same time I know the President is also the Commander in Chief of ALL the military branches, as well as being the chief executive. If you didn’t know, the Department of Justice falls under the EXECUTIVE branch.

So Obama could be a leader and tell the military they’re going to allow gay people to serve openly. Case closed, no recourse. He IS the Commander in Chief.

So why is it our ‘fierce advocate’ can’t find the stones to be a fucking leader when we need him to be a leader.

He’s had some successes sure, but the health reform debacle where he backpedaled the public option was fucking shameful. And he’s throwing we gay people under the bus too.

It isn’t that I won’t vote for him come 2012 but damn it, act like a leader. Not some namby pamby doormat that the Repugs are going to walk all over.

More bullshit. Obama claims to be against DADT and DOMA yet continually works to keep them in place. He claims to be an ally yet offers nothing to us but pretty words. He befriends and even aids the bigots who seek to keep us second-class citizens. He is a fauxvocate. I can’t believe people still take his words seriously.

He just can’t flip DADT over like a switch. There are processes that has to happen first. If he just said “away DADT” our soldiers could be in more danger. There has to be provisions in place in order to have a safe and effective transition. And takes some time and planning.

I don’t understand how you could buy into that line. Look at countries that have already allowed gay people to serve. They just said “Let it be so.” and it was.

I understand that, Tony. But there are so many reports of harassment and there was a murder last year of gay (marine?) that still has been solved. I want protocols in place before DADT is done. I want our fam safe within the armed forces

For sure Obama has been a disappointment, and like one of the people who asked a question of him, I too want to be able to defend him and sing his praises, but damn it, he hasn’t given us reason to do so. I am so fed up with politics and politicians. The mudslinging – or should I say shitslinging? – in Connecticut has got to be the worse we’ve ever witnessed. I will vote – reluctantly – but how do I rebel? Thinking of making a Tshirt to wear to the polls – but haven’t decided on a slogan.
