This is a really interesting book. It centers around the time from 1945 to 1955 and explains about the purges of Federal employees because of their perceived homosexuality. It also discusses the factors surrounding the criminalization of LGBT people and the movers and shakers behind it.
Now I’m only about a quarter of the way through the book but one thing shines out:
All the anti-gay hatred, every last bit of it, was on the part of Republicans.
For sixty years we’ve put up with the ludicrous acts of Republicans. Isn’t it time to focus the disinfectant sunshine on the group of miscreants that even to this day try to deny the rights of LGBT people, women, minorities, etc.?
And the attitudes of groups like AFA, FRC, NOM, etc. are all based on the Republican view of homosexuality and LGBT rights.
I am going to send in my $1 and a self addressed stamped envelope to get the Ruth Institute’s 77 truths. It’s great blog fodder. I can’t wait to get mine.
