Religious wing-nuttery over marriage equality December 6, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

So I was reading this post on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters and this paragraph grabbed my attention:
He went on to maintain that same-sex unions are a “narcissistic parody” of opposite-sex relationships as “homosexual relationships do not represent an authentic intimacy, but rather involve mutual exploitation for the sake of satisfying an unnatural lust” and lead to suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, violence along with other “destructive consequences.” “Homosexuals themselves, who are the greatest victims of the ‘gay lifestyle,’ and are in desperate need of the truth,” he writes.
Let’s break this down, shall we?
“Do not represent authentic intimacy” – the definition:
Of undisputed origin; genuine: “authentic 14th-century furniture”.
Made or done in the traditional or original way: “authentic Italian meals”.
So they’re trying to say because they dispute it our relationships aren’t authentic? Try again! He’s trying to make the wrong-parts argument and failing miserably because we all know better.
“…but rather involve mutual exploitation for the sake of satisfying an unnatural lust…“
But lust in itself is an immoral thing. Or so says the church. The unnatural part comes from nature being a code word for God. The thing is, in the Bible the prohibitions of a man lying with a man aren’t the word of God per se, but part of the Levitical code of conduct. In other words, written by primitive tribal societies who saw non-reproduction as un-natural.
“…lead to suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, violence along with other “destructive consequences.”
Funny, I can only speak from my perspective here. First of all I’ve never contemplated suicide, only drink moderate amounts of alcohol, never abused drugs, and never suffered any violence. Then of course the writer completely gives a pass with “destructive consequences”. This is code speak for “The wages of sin are death.”
This is not to say that alot of gay and bisexual people and even straight people haven’t succumbed to diseases like HIV/AIDS, Herpes, etc. But that’s just it, Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, of the three names doesn’t understand the nature of disease, it’s not so much due to actions per se, but because of bacteria and viruses. Modern science has figured that part out for at least a century now.
And the only reason I’m the ‘greatest victim’ of my ‘gay lifestyle’ is only because religious bigots like Hoffman keep railing on, all up in the Kool Aid, and don’t know the flavor.
Boycott the Boy Scouts December 1, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

So a December 1st challenge is to write about why you shouldn’t support the Boy Scouts of America.
A little disclaimer here – I was a half-hearted scout back in the 70′s. I was a member first of Troop 42 in Pawtucket, RI and lastly Troop 13 in Providence, RI.
I think the reason I was half-hearted was due to the fact that I knew eventually my disbelief would come out full force. Plus I was starting to realize I was gay, not the only one of course, but I knew that was extreme grounds.
I loved the camp outs. The rest of it, the merit badges, meh.
But I no longer support scouting. First of all because I’m gay and they have a horrid history of discrimination against gay people. Then because I’m an atheist and that runs smack into their little “You can’t be a good scout if you don’t believe in a sky fairy.”
That last part bothers me more than anything. Because the scouts bolster a belief that without God you cannot be moral. I can tell them beyond a shadow of doubt that my morality is probably much more developed than theirs. I don’t have to depend on ten commandments, or other ridiculous notions to inform my view of what is right and what is wrong.
President Obama to have lunch with Mitt Romney November 28, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

This popped up on Huffington Post today.
On the one hand, I find this to be very gracious on the part of the President to even give Mitt Romney a hearing.
Do you really think Willard Mitt Romney can add anything to the political reality in the United States? I don’t. Romney offered no new ideas to move us forward as a nation. So the reality of course is that this is purely symbolic.
Though I would like to be a fly on the wall for this lunch meeting. There won’t be any press allowed which I find really interesting. Perhaps Mitt Romney will me marched out in cuffs and sent to Guantanamo? Nah, that’s just fantasy on my part.

Yes indeed – Christianity is sliding down that slippery slope. A friend of mine says that what we are witnessing is the dying gasps of organize religion.
But granted, it’s going to take a long time for it to completely fade away.
Why else would the likes of the Pope, and leaders of the Southern Baptists, and evangelicals keep saying such ridiculous things? Because they know they’re losing the battle.
Part of it is a function that traces back to the invention of the printing press. Of course we’ve taken that to an extreme, I can publish this without anything more than a swype or press of keys on my phone or computer.
So it’s really a function of education, which is why you’re seeing attacks on things like evolution because the religious know they cannot legitimately argue against it. So they came up with creation ‘science’.
And of course there’s the deliberate dumbing down of our educational system in general. I was at the forum for potential school board candidates and I said, I want every student in the Providence school system to get the education I got, and mine wasn’t in public schools.
But even with those attacks we’re still making progress. It is because we have this thing that I alluded to earlier, the internet. A multitude of search engines, Web 2.0 sites, etc. It heterodynes the message that directly disputes the claims of the religious.
Marriage Equality Advances November 7, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

So congratulations to my brothers and sisters in Minnesota, Maine, Maryland and Washington! You’ve won back your rights to marry under the law or in the case of Minnesota beat back and amendment that would enshrine discrimination in Minnesota’s Constitution.
I think what happened is that people are finally starting to realize that the arguments put forth by the likes of NOM, the Catholic Bishops, et al are only so much bovine effluent.
And part of what moved those people to realize they were being sold a false bill is that both the President and Vice President of the United States came out last May to lend their support to the cause of marriage equality. That is true leadership right there.
I’m incredibly happy about the victories in those four states, Minnesota, Maine, Maryland and Washington. You all fought a hard battle but in the end you prevailed. And you’ve provided the tipping point.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the United States Supreme Court accepts both the Prop 8 appeal and the DOMA class. They don’t exist in a vacuum, they know that the wind of public opinion is starting to blow strongly in our favor. So they pretty much have to act.

Well well, it was a squeaker for the Presidency but President Obama has triumphed. Good, I didn’t want to see Romney/Ryan anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
And on the marriage equality topic, Maine, Maryland and Washington state all approved. Minnesota is still close but I suspect they will prevail. I’d love to hear what the bigots of NOM and the Catholic church have to say about that. Maybe concede that they’re becoming increasingly irrelevant in modern society?? I doubt it though, they’ll try to spin this in order to justify their existence.
And the question in Providence to re-pave a good portion of the city was approved. This means the street I live on is getting re-paved and it needs it desperately!
In RI casinos in both Lincoln and Newport were approved. This one is a no brainer – the state never had any intention of letting the Narragansett Indian tribe open and/or run a casino, but the state can both own and operate the casinos. It’s a shame in a sense, the Narragansetts had inept leadership to the point that the Bureau of Indian Affairs really stuck it to them.

The run-up. It’s exploding all over Facebook of all places. So I’m avoiding it like the plague. I’ll start taking an interest around 11PM or so once all the polls have been closed and most of the votes tallied.
It is interesting that President Obama has gotten New Hampshire which is very interesting. One thing about the exit polling that people are offering up. People tell lies when they leave the polls. This has been evident for some time now.
I just hope to a non-existent deity Romney doesn’t get the Presidency. That would be disastrous.
Pretty clear who won this debate October 16, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

President Obama definitely brought he A game this time.
And Romoney – what an arrogant prick! So much so that I want the next round of debates to adopt the method used by the Ed Show on MSNBC – text A or B to 622639. But I want it to be a Bitch Slap scheme.
By that I mean – assign A to President Obama, B to Romney. Whoever gets the most Bitch Slap texts for each question – the moderator must get out of their chair, walk over to the winning party and bitch slap the hell out of them.
If the above were implemented I can see a seriously bruised Romney.
So my aunt really is a clueless clod September 30, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.
She posted this on Facebook:
I’m going to take it point by point and use citation to prove her wrong where applicable.
A few reasons why I won’t vote for Obama.
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA…WHO AND WHAT IS THIS GUY TO OUR COUNTRY???
First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
The President is NOT a foreigner despite your best efforts at birtherism. He was born in the STATE of Hawaii. Hawaii is part of the UNITED STATES of America.
First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.
He was born in and resided in Hawaii for a few days at least. Your SS number is based on where you were born. If you knew more about the system you wouldn’t make such obvious idiotic statements.
First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating of the United States
He did not preside over it so much as the brinksmanship being practiced by Republicans caused it in the first place.
First President to violate the War Powers Act.
Go look here. You might learn a thing or two. It’s not legally clear that he did so.
First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico .
This one is actually true. One out of how many?
First President to require all Americans to purchase a product from a third party.
I’m not even going to dignify this one. It’s a ding against the Health Care Reform Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.
First President to spend a trillion dollars on ‘shovel-ready’ jobs when there was no such thing as ‘shovel-ready’ jobs, nor shovels. As he has admitted, to.
Shovel ready wasn’t termed by the President. However I saw quite a bit of action here in Providence. Sidewalks replaced, new ITS style traffic lights installed. All in furtherance btw of Rapid Bus Transit corridors.
First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
This is another one that doesn’t require any research. The federal government bailed out the auto companies. That is true. However to say the unions had control is a complete and utter falsehood.
First President to by-pass Congress and implement the Dream Act through executive fiat.
You know what – yes he did it by EXECUTIVE ORDER which the author so nicely denigrates as ‘fiat’. And know what, I think someone who came here as a young child and who was educated here, works here, they should be granted a path to citizenship.
First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S. , including those with criminal convictions.
First of all there’s nothing secret. They have not stopped deportations, if you need proof just pick up a fucking newspaper and read the horror stories of families with businesses being separated.
First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.
Now this is interesting. I googled “What company handed over $20 Billion”. All the links, and I mean ALL of them are circular references to this list that I’m debunking right now.
First President to tell a CEO of a major corporation (Chrysler) to resign.
This is another one that is a circular reference. Here, go look for yourself.
First President to terminate America ‘s ability to put a man in space.
You can actually blame the Bush Administration for that. The Shuttle program was getting very long in the tooth. But at the same time the Bush Administration in it’s first term decided that wasn’t a priority. And in case you didn’t know the Orion program is still active. And in fact NASA is working on an FTL (Faster than Light) transport method. Warp drive – only instead of requiring the mass of Jupiter all they need is 1,000 pounds of reaction material.
First President to cancel the National Day of Prayer and to say that America is no longer a Christian nation.
As I go through this list it’s pretty obvious this is a Tea Bagger Hit Piece. America has NEVER BEEN a Christian nation. And as far as canceling the day of prayer the President did no such thing. He simply did not attend.
And the 1st President to institute, “Muslim Prayer Day”, and shortly after he wipes away National Prayer Day.
First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.
Oh this one is rich! He did it because he was traveling and it’s LEGAL! Imagine that, and not to mention it saves OODLES of cash.
First President to disregard, morning Intelligence Briefings. He has not attended over 80 of these and hasn’t been to one in over 6 months
This one is easy to debunk. It’s quite simple – they don’t have them any more. President Obama is briefed daily.
first President whose Administration has not created a National Budget for nearly 4 years, and counting.
Um – this one is wrong on so many levels!
First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.
Don’t need a link for this one. The DOJ refuses to defend Section 3 of the federal DOMA – Defense of Marriage Act. And they are correct in doing so as DOMA IS unconstitutional.
First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke-out on the reasons for their rate increases.
First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory.
First President to file lawsuits against the states he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN).
First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.
First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal).
First President to overtake a US private company (GM), and declare he is trying to save this American institution. But he refuses to relinquish the US gov’s majority stake in this private company. Even after the CO. requests it.
First President to fire an inspector general of Ameri-Corps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case.
First President whose Attorney General, has been found to be in Contempt of Congress.
First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office. I think it’s a little higher now.
And the above proves, he’s the First President who has tried to RULE the nation instead of LEAD the nation.
First President to surround himself with radical left wing anarchists.
First President to have only %5 of his Administration, hold a private job, other than being part of the Ivory Tower.
First President to golf 73 separate times in his first two and a half years in office, 102 to date. And, probably still have a hard time breaking 100, on the score card.
First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.
First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.
First President to go on multiple “global apology” and “insult our friends” tours.
First President to go on 17 lavish vacations, including date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends paid for by the taxpayer.
First President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.
First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense.
First President to repeat the Holy Quran & tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth.
First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they “volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences. Then he was the First President to tell the members of the military that THEY were UNPATRIOTIC for balking at the last suggestion.
First President to say to the private business’ of the country, “If you built a business, you didn’t do that on your own. You’ve had help [implied, government help] in doing that.
First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states ( Mexico vs Arizona ).
The first President to claim for 16 years, that he was not born in the USA and then for the last 5 years (just before his run for President) begins to state that he was born in Hawaii.
The first President to claim he was born in two different Hospitals; his first admission was that he was born at Queens Medical Center. Then, his second birth statement says he was born at Kapi’ olani Medical Center. And these two Hospitals are on opposite ends of the island.
And so, Obama is the first President who does not know where he was born.
First President to state that there are 57 States in the USA.
First President who is attempting to over turn the law which banishes Felons, from voting in any election for an Elected Official.
How is this hope and change working out for you?
SPREAD THIS TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND TO THOSE WHO MAY NEED THIS LIST OF FACTS, TO ASSIST THEM IN VOTING ON NOVEMBER 6, 2012
Ok – I’m sick of debunking. You can clearly see that this is a Tea Bagger inspired hit piece. As the list progresses a lot of ad hominem is evident.
When political canvassing plays into your hands August 11, 2012Posted by truthspew in Uncategorized.

I’ve been rather critical of a candidate for Representative in my district, John J. Lombardi and his stance on marriage equality.
So tonight my doorbell rings and it’s John himself with what I can only assume is his campaign aid.
And me being me, my first question was “Do you support marriage equality?”
He and I had a really good conversation – I gave him my lay of the land politically about marriage equality. But here’s the thing – he hasn’t seen the bill yet or at least says he hasn’t. Nor have I. And he doesn’t want to commit to anything he hasn’t read. Fair enough.
But I explained to him the 30,000 postcards delivered to the legislature, how I thought Gordon Fox was a weak leader, and that I was politically active. He asked why I didn’t run, and I told him I’d prefer to be king maker to king. I got a high five from him for that. Of course I didn’t tell him that some of my attitudes about politics are definitely Machiavellian.
But he seems to be trying to gauge opinion. He brought up semantics in the form of “Shall/May”. And I told him that was simply a semantic tactic.
He seems like a nice enough guy and I’m glad he canvassed here this evening. It’s funny, Keyron doesn’t like when politicians canvass and I love it. I mean what better chance do you have to put them on the spot? And really – it’s local enough that the actual CANDIDATE is the one knocking on your door. Here in Rhode Island politics is a contact sport.
We’ll see who I vote for though as more details emerge. I already have Libby Kimzey on record saying she supports marriage equality, and I did get a tiny bit of song and dance from John J. Lombardi.
