Food: Waffle, Waffle, Waffle

So I bought a Waffle maker. I went on Amazon and I had been advised to get a Cuisinart. Thing is, I’m the frugal type – I won’t pay a fortune for features I don’t need or won’t use.

For example the Cuisinart has temperature controls, and all sorts of advanced, adaptive features. And it cost just shy of $100. It puts me in mind of the Toaster Story in that it’s not a waffle iron but a breakfast cooker. If you’re familiar with the Toaster Story it’s a meme about Keep it Simple Stupid or KISS in engineering and software development.

The reason for purchasing a waffle maker was that Keyron sent me a link to pizza waffle recipes. That was it. Time for a waffle maker.

But I found a Hamilton Beach Waffle Maker – it was $25 and even shipped wasn’t even 1/3 the price of the Cuisinart. It’s the old fashioned type with two lights, one for power on and one for Ready.

It goes like this:

1) Find your favorite recipe for waffles – I’ll give you a hint, waffle recipes are really cake like – just one less egg but they do use flour, sugar, eggs, and oil.  And another suggestion – keep your wet and dry ingredients separated until the Ready light comes on and then mix to combine, do not overmix.
2) Plug the waffle maker in, wait about ten minutes for it to heat up and the Ready light to come on. N.B. for waffle recipes with a lot of sugar even if your waffle iron is non-stick – give it a spray with some vegetable oil.

3) Once the Ready light is on open the waffle maker. Pour in approximately 1/2 cup of batter for each waffle.

4) Close the waffle iron. It will start steaming like crazy but leave it until the Ready light comes on again.

5) Remove your waffles. Hit them with room temperature butter, Grade B Maple Syrup, or powdered sugar if you wish. Or do what we’re going to do, make little pizzas out of them.
