Obama in ’08???

I’ve been seeing a lot of press lately about Barak Obama, the U.S. Senator from Illinois. He’s definitely charismatic as all hell, and politically he’s pretty much a blank slate. Sometimes I consider that a good thing.

Some paint him as a weak senator but they have to remember that he’s a first term Senator, and second his legal training more than likely causes him to be a bit more deliberative than usual. In other articles I’ve read about him, that appears to be the case.

I’d love to see him run. Of course the rabid racists will be up in arms, and why do I suspect the religious reich will also be out to crucify him. While we’re at it, lets not forget K-K-Karl Rove, the fucking pig.

Anyhow, here’s the latest Washington Post piece about him, and if you want more info look here.

Put it this way – I’d love to see fresh meat run for President. As I said earlier, he’s got the charisma and if he can tack to the center he just might have a shot.

Gay Pride Providence 2006 Watc…

Gay Pride Providence 2006

Watch the video

The 30th Anniversary of the 1st Gay Pride in Providence. Bit on the long side and everything is orangey because of those High Pressure Sodium lights.

It’s a large file, bad video (Damned high pressure sodium lighting) but you get the whole 37 minutes of the parade.

Now of course my comments. This is the first night time Pride parade I’ve been to. Why don’t we just say when I saw the word ‘illuminated’ I thought about Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade. Hmm.. I have that on VHS somewhere. But that’s for a later date.

My expectations were dashed on the rocks. As usual, it rained during the parade. Somehow this seems a common thing with Providence Pride for as long as I can remember.

So next year I want to get on a float committee. Rent a trailerable 125kW generator and a tractor trailer with a flatbed. Then get to work – they want illuminated, I’ll give them illuminated. Think about National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. You know the scene I’m talking about. I want that baby visible from the ISS. But I understand it takes money, well lets start the fundraising now. I’ll be setting up a paypal account for it shortly.

South Central Farm Bulldozed

Ok, this is disturbing to me on many levels. But one in particular stands out. First watch the video
and then add your piece.

The group has the money to buy the property but the mayor walked away from the table. Why? I’ll tell you why. A farm generates far less tax revenue than a permanent structure. And a non-profit farm generates even less tax revenue.

14 acres is a hell of a nice piece of property. No wonder the mayor of L.A. is salivating.

Republicans Phony Resolution

The reason the U.S. needs to keep Iraq going is because so long as we’re there, nobody dare switch away from the U.S. dollar for oil trading.

The minute we withdraw it goes to the Euro and we’re screwed. The United States is teetering on the edge of its SECOND depression. That’s right, I said depression. And only a hoax of immense proportions will let us down easily, instead of hard as happened in the 1920’s.

Of course the Bush administration could have tied the dollar to the Euro back in 2000. That would have stopped this foolish misadventure in its tracks. But policy is policy, logic never gets a chance.

The dissection is here.

When straight people support gay marriage

Interesting things happen when straight people stop, think and realize that gay people aren’t demons. Arron Toleos was a typical straight frat-boy, but his thinking changed when he though what might happen if someone signed a petition to break up his family.

That started knowthyneighbor.org

PlanetOut does an interesting profile of the man. But here’s my thing – take your average Bush voter, his base so to speak. It is fairly common knowledge that the percentage of citizen with a Bachelors degree is only 27% of the U.S adult population. So the rest of us are ignorant, is it any wonder that religious nut cases can put across a message of hate? I don’t know about you, but I’ve found the more educated to be more accepting of gay and lesbian people.

More interesting is the fact that my own father signed the anti-gay marriage petition in Florida. To say I’m disappointed would be the understatement of the year. It’s not like he doesn’t know I’ve been in a relationship for nearly 14 years with a charming, talented, and cute guy. So in essence, he wants to insert exclusionary language into the Florida consitution, even though he knows he has a gay son.

I have yet to confront him becuase my anger is seething at the moment. But I’m beginning to understand why he signed it. You see, my father is a holy roller. Of course he’s learned all the WRONG things. For example he and I once got into a fantastic argument because he was spouting that the Bible specifically banned black people from being with white people.

He proclaimed to have read the Bible six times. As someone that has read and analyzed the Bible from cover to cover, I asked if he’d read the whole thing or just the passages his pastor had pointed out. You can probably guess the answer.

So it was definitely his ‘church’ that passed around that vile piece of paper. I’d bet that he caved to peer pressure. So should I anaylze this further I’d have no choice but to come to the conclusion that my father is a coward.

The Democratic Underground hits another one out of the park

I’d like to see the freepers deny this stuff. I’m sure there’d be plenty of ‘but’s in their defense of Republican Logic, but the men and women at the Democratic Underground know how to present factual data.

First thing we need to do is get election monitors into the U.S. before the 2006 elections. I mean it, the articles regarding election fraud have been coming out of the woodwork lately. A couple of entries before this, you’ll see that in 2004 Republicans engaged in ‘caging’, a somewhat illegal means of disenfranchising voters.

Great Anti-Hummer Parody

Oh this is fantastic. Just watch.

Hummers by far are the most excessive of the SUV crowd. Expeditions and Escalades aren’t far behind. Yes, I’ve driven and Expedition. Fun enough but when you realize it gets a whopping 13MPG you tell you friend he can have it back. Seriously.

I’m a bit of a tree hugger so that might explain it.

The Republicans DID employee caging in 2004

Oh this makes me mad. You see, my partner is black. Were he to be denied the right to vote just because we lived in a zip code where most residents may be black, I’d be the first one at the Sec States office with my hands around the Sec States neck. But wait, I live in a state where this type of crap doesn’t happen. Not to mention who I work for.

But read it for yourself. If this disenfrachisement doesn’t make your blood boil, it indicates that there’s something seriously wrong with you.

Oh, and impeach Bush/Cheney NOW! It’s becoming painfully clear that they stole the election. Granted, the Constitution doesn’t say much about this. But we the citizens ought to want heads to roll as a penalty for defrauding the people.
